Hello from Alice

As a BSc Mathematics graduate, I know how challenging maths can be! I specialise in teaching students who find maths difficult - particularly those with dyslexia and dyscalculia

With over 10 years (and more than 6000 hours) experience as a tutor of children and adults, I have successfully assisted students in gaining GCSEs, passing tests, being offered promotions and relieving maths anxiety which around 25% of people experience.

I often have worried students and concerned parents approach me with a real worry about attainment in maths. Through thousands of hours, hundreds of students and years of study, I am able to create a bespoke plan for tuition that suits every student's personality, motivation and ability.

I am a youth mental health first aider and carefully listen to the concerns of every student about their maths ability, discussing together what we can do to alleviate stress and set them up on a path to understanding. My sessions are not pressured and I will happily accommodate last minute changes to topics as I believe in a student-centred approach and that tutoring is truly effective when the student participates as much as the tutor in discussions.

I work most frequently with students who are neurodiverse, whether that is having dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD or being on the Autistic spectrum. My sessions are welcoming, safe spaces to ask questions without judgement and a place to learn creatively and with specific learning differences in mind.

I first started my journey into working with neurodiverse students whilst working with university students in receipt of Disabled Student's Allowance (DSA). I started working in higher education in 2014 and have continued to offer targeted, individual support to students since then. In 2023 I qualified as a Further/Higher Education study skills tutor and make adjustments to these recommendations to adapt the techniques for younger students studying for their GCSEs.

I welcome parents and students to have a free video chat with me to discuss any prior concerns before commencing tuition, or to get in touch if you would like to know more about how I am experienced in working with students who have learning differences.
